Louis Dixson (Louie D.) has been compared to some of the saxophone greats....Clarence Clemons, David Sanborn, Kirk Whalum, Grover Washington & Maceo Parker.   He has shared the stage with Doc Holliday of the Dizzy Gillespie Band, the Derrick Trucks Band, Galactic and Troy Turner at the New Orleans House of Blues.  

 

His mentor in life was Jesse Scales who took Louis under his wing and provided him with his first saxophone and a wealth of inspiration.  ​ A 13-year Veteran of the Navy, Dixson grew up in Niagara Falls, NY.     He started kicking up grooves when he was 6 and joined the school band at 12.  At 16, he formed his first R&B, soul and jazz band - Hydro Funk. Louis was offered several scholarships upon graduation; however, needed to help support his family so he enlisted in the Armed Forces.  

 

In recent years, Dixson toured up and down the East Coast as a jazz sideman.  He spent years playing the circuit in front of big crowds with a popular Dave Matthews tribute band called Trippin' Billies.   He formed his band, The Louie D. Project, in 2003, started The Louie D. Experience, (his saxophone/vocals solo show) in 2020 during the Covid pandemic and was Music Director for the Charleston Blues Revue.    He was nominated Best Musician, Best Male Vocalist, Best Horn Player, Best Blues Artist, Best HipHop Artist and his band, The Louie D. Project, was nominated Best Funk Band, Best Local Band, Best Cover Band and Best Jazz Band by the Charleston City Paper.
